The Spinosaurus was a large carnivorous dinosaur that measured between 50 and 60 feet in length and weighed between 7 and 22 metric tons. It lived in North Africa during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 95 to 112 million years ago. Recognized as the largest known carnivorous dinosaur, even surpassing the Tyrannosaurus rex, Spinosaurus was distinguished by its long, crocodile-like skull, a unique sail on its back formed by elongated spines, and a semi-aquatic lifestyle. It is one of the most famous dinosaurs known today.
